Beauty and the Beast

Costume Design by Hannah Alexander

Build Notes:

Costume consists of a fully hand draped and patterned gown over a flat-faced corset lining with 1/4" featherweight boning for structure and support and 30 corset grommets placed 3/4" apart. An insert was created and is attached via ultra soft velcro along the inside of the corset backing to add additional support and coverage but is easily removable if the client does not find it necessary.

The gown was created with three layers of fabrics to provide the best color creation, shapely support, and comfort--yellow to cream ombre chiffon, a pale yellow double faced Georgette, and an ultra soft cotton lining. It features a trumpet skirt from the knee to ankle with two layers of horsehair braid for flow and shape. The skirt overlay is a French vanilla cream chiffon over an ivory batiste providing durability and flow.

The 'crumb catcher' ruffles upon the bust line and sleeves were created with a French vanilla double faced Georgette. I chose a wide satin ribbon for lacing to create a decadent, full look up the back.
